A case against a media organisation for making bogus claims and false advertisements on the online portal intermediaries gnp and bupa has been filed in the Central Administrative Court.
The Centre’s case seeks a direction that the two entities registered under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 2000, not make any false or misleading statements in relation to any advertisement posted on the portal.
The court has also directed that no advertisement shall be published or made on the website or any of the other platforms which the defendant is registered under under the Act.
The matter was transferred to a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday also directed the CBI to submit its report within five days on the matter.
Earlier, the court had said that the accused had been acting as intermediaries for one of the two portals, and was hence liable to be prosecuted for the false and misleading advertisements.
